The whitefly's tiniest nightmare! 🪰 The parasitic wasp Encarsia formosa — just 1 mm of yellow-and-black precision — is the classic control for whitefly ("white flyers") in the greenhouse and on houseplants.
How it works
Supplied as pupae ("black scales") glued to a hanging card, the wasps chew their way out during the first week and immediately hunt for whitefly larvae to parasitise. They lay their eggs inside the white larvae, which turn black after about two weeks — a satisfying sign it's working — before a new generation of wasps emerges to continue the cycle.
How to use
Open the box beside the affected plants and hang the cards on the plants, shaded from direct sun. Since adult whiteflies keep flying and laying, treating the plant tops with insecticidal soap first can give the wasps a head start. Best above 17 °C.
Good to know: 500 pupae, covers approximately 10 m². Not available in winter.
