Monstera borsigiana Aurea is a rare variegated form of Monstera borsigiana, a climbing aroid closely related to Monstera deliciosa and native to Central America. This form is admired for its elegant fenestrated leaves and faster more flexible growth habit compared to standard deliciosa types. In the Aurea form the green foliage is accented by warm golden yellow variegation that appears as marbling and sectors across the leaf surface, creating a luminous high contrast appearance. Variegation expression can vary from leaf to leaf, making every plant visually unique and highly collectible.
Because of the reduced chlorophyll in aurea areas and the vigorous climbing nature of Monstera borsigiana, this plant performs best in controlled indoor environments where stable conditions support healthy growth.
Care guide
Light
Bright indirect light. Provide strong filtered light to maintain aurea variegation and encourage healthy leaf development. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the lighter areas of the leaves.
High Humidity
Moderate to high humidity is preferred, ideally above fifty five percent. Consistent humidity supports leaf expansion and reduces stress.
Soil
Light chunky soil mix. Use an airy, well draining aroid substrate rich in organic matter to support strong root growth.
Watering
Keep evenly moist. Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely or remain waterlogged.
Temperature
Keep it warm between twenty and twenty eight degrees Celsius, or sixty eight to eighty two degrees Fahrenheit. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Fertilizer
Light regular feeding during the growing season supports steady growth. Use a balanced fertilizer at low strength.
Growth habit and additional care
Climbing growth with fenestrated foliage and flexible stems supported by strong aerial roots. Variegated leaves are sensitive to stress, low humidity and inconsistent care, so stable conditions, minimal handling and a consistent routine are essential for long term success.
