The species is admired for its narrow elongated leaves with a stiff upright posture and a deep metallic green surface that gives the plant a sleek sculptural appearance. In the Aurea form the blade like foliage is accented by warm golden yellow variegation that appears as marbling and soft patches along the leaf creating a striking contrast against the dark glossy base.
