Alocasia Dragon Scale Aurea is a rare variegated form of Alocasia baginda, commonly known as Dragon Scale. Native to Borneo this jewel Alocasia is admired for its thick heavily textured leaves with a silvery green surface and deep dark veining that resembles reptile scales. In the Aurea form the sculptural foliage is accented by warm golden yellow variegation that appears as marbling and patches across the metallic base creating a rich and luminous contrast. Each leaf develops unique patterns making this plant a highly prized collector specimen.

Due to the instability of aurea variegation and the naturally slow growth of the species this plant performs best in controlled indoor environments where stable conditions support long term health.

Care guide

Light
Bright indirect light. Provide strong filtered light to support healthy growth and maintain aurea variegation. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the lighter areas of the leaves.

High Humidity
High to very high humidity is recommended ideally above sixty five percent. Consistent humidity helps preserve leaf texture and reduces stress.

Soil
Light chunky soil mix. Use an airy and well draining aroid substrate to protect the roots and prevent compaction.

Watering
Keep evenly moist. Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely or remain waterlogged.

Temperature
Keep it warm between twenty and twenty eight degrees Celsius or sixty eight to eighty two degrees Fahrenheit. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Fertilizer
Light regular feeding during the growing season supports slow steady growth. Use a balanced fertilizer at low strength.

Growth habit and additional care
Compact upright growth with no climbing behavior. This plant is sensitive to stress low humidity and inconsistent care. Stable conditions minimal disturbance and a consistent routine are essential for long term success.
