Alocasia Black Velvet Variegata is a rare variegated form of Alocasia reginula, commonly known as Black Velvet. Native to Borneo this jewel Alocasia is prized for its thick velvety almost black leaves and bold silver veining. In the variegated form the dark foliage is contrasted by irregular marbling and patches of cream pale yellow or light green creating a striking and elegant appearance. Each plant develops unique patterns which makes it a true collector specimen.

Due to the rarity of stable variegation and the naturally slow growth of the species this plant performs best in controlled indoor environments where stable conditions support long term health.

Care guide

Light
Bright indirect light. Provide strong filtered light to maintain variegation and support healthy growth. Avoid direct sunlight which can damage the lighter areas of the leaves.

High Humidity
High to very high humidity is recommended ideally above sixty five percent. Consistent humidity helps preserve the velvety texture of the leaves and reduces stress.

Soil
Light chunky soil mix. Use an airy and well draining aroid substrate to protect the roots and prevent compaction.

Watering
Keep evenly moist. Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely or remain waterlogged.

Temperature
Keep it warm between twenty and twenty eight degrees Celsius or sixty eight to eighty two degrees Fahrenheit. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Fertilizer
Light regular feeding during the growing season supports slow steady growth. Use a balanced fertilizer at low strength.

Growth habit and additional care
Compact upright growth with no climbing behavior. This plant is sensitive to stress low humidity and inconsistent care. Stable conditions minimal disturbance and a consistent routine are essential for long term success.
